City 9

As part of the Year 9 Curriculum, students participate in a City9 as part of our SHIELD program; which focuses on empowering our year 9’s through student voice. The program culminates in the final week of Term Two where each House will experience all the wonders of the CBD for five days. During the City9 week students will participate in a range of activities within the CBD.

The City9 experience has been designed to provide the opportunity for our students to develop personal skills, both individually and through connection with their House, that will help them take the next step into senior school. Students are encouraged to explore the city with a motivation to do and learn as much as they can and to challenge themselves.

The aims of the program are to:

  1. Develop students’ independence and self-reliance by navigating and exploring the CBD
  2. Foster a sense of responsibility and accountability as students participate in activities within the city
  3. Enhance students’ communication and collaboration skills through engaging with peers – providing opportunities to develop initiative and work effectively in a team
  4. Cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as students encounter real-world challenges in the CBD
  5. Promote personal growth and self-reflection through exposure to new experiences and environments
  6. Encourage students to embrace diversity and inclusivity by interacting with individuals from different backgrounds in the city
  7. Foster a sense of cultural appreciation and understanding by exploring the city’s heritage and landmarks
  8. Develop resilience and adaptability as students navigate unfamiliar settings and situations in the CBD
  9. Strengthen time-management and organization skills as students balance their City9 activities with regular school requirements
  10. Empower students to become active and engaged citizens by instilling a sense of civic responsibility and engagement with the city community- Promoting confidence and independence
