Chin National Day has become a highly anticipated event at Mooroolbark College. This year, students dedicated weeks to planning, choreographing, and rehearsing performances that beautifully showcased their culture. We were treated to a stunning fashion show featuring traditional clothing, and the much-loved staff vs. student volleyball. With so many chin students passionate about volleyball, the annual game always draws enthusiastic and competitive participants on both sides of the net!
Here’s what our students had to say about the significance of Chin National Day:
“Celebrating Chin National Day at school means a lot to me. It’s a chance to connect with my roots and show pride in my heritage. Growing up, it sometimes felt like my culture wasn’t really acknowledged, so having this day recognized at school makes me feel seen and valued. It’s a reminder that my background, and the history of my people, matters.”
“For me, it’s not just about celebrating—it’s about remembering the struggles and sacrifices my community has endured. We’ve faced many challenges, and this day allows me to honor that resilience. It makes me proud of my people and what we’ve overcome together.”
“It gives me the chance to bond with other Chin students. When we come together to celebrate, it feels like we’re part of something bigger than just the school—we’re part of a community with shared experiences and traditions. It’s a time when I feel truly connected to my culture and can share that with others.”
“Being able to celebrate Chin National Day helps me share my background with my classmates. It’s an opportunity for them to learn about who we are and what we’ve been through. It feels good to know that other students are gaining a better understanding of my culture, and hopefully, that helps them appreciate the diversity in our school even more.”
Mooroolbark College is incredibly proud to support and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our students. Chin National Day continues to be a meaningful and memorable event, strengthening both cultural pride and school community spirit.
