HUMANITIES YEAR 7 HISTORY This unit provides a study of history from the time of the earliest human communities to the end of the ancient period. Students will study a range of ancient societies such as Australia, Rome and China. The basic skills and concepts of history will be introduced. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE • Chronology, terms and concepts. • Historical questions and research. • Analysis and use of resources. • Perspectives and interpretations. • Explanation and communication. YEAR 7 GEOGRAPHY Students are introduced to the study of natural and human environments, with a focus on Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Topics will include water in the world and place and liveability. This study will encompass the Civics and Citizenship Strand of Diversity and Identity. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE • Mapping and Graphing. • Observation, collection and interpretation of data. • ICT skills • Investigation and Research • Collaborative work YEAR 8 HISTORY This unit provides a study of history from the end of the Ancient period to the beginning of the modern period. A range of topics are studied, including; Romans in Britain, Saxons and Vikings, Medieval Europe, Japan under the shoguns, and the Black Death in Asia, Europe and Africa. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE • Chronology, terms and concepts • Historical questions and research • Analysis and use of resources • Perspectives and interpretations • Explanation and communication YEAR 8 GEOGRAPHY This course extends the students’ exploration of natural and human environments, with a focus on Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Topics will include: Forests, Deserts, Cities, Urban Places and Mega-Cities. This subject will encompass Strands of Economics.
